Out and Back has moved! Please update your links:

This site will remain up for the next six months or so, as the migration isn't 100% complete yet, but in September the Typepad incarnation of Out and Back will go away!

Just busy

The last couple of months have been pretty busy, and on top of that I haven't had a lot of energy for writing. My new blog, Prescription Suitcase, has kept me kind of busy, too. I don't want to abandon this blog, so now that I've settled into a pretty good posting routine over at the other one, I can start to reincorporate this one into the juggling act.

I've been doing some routine maintenance here at Out and Back, tweaking some categories and fixing some old posts in an attempt to better organize the subject matter (not that this blog has ever been organized, but at least I'm making the effort!) Regular posting to resume soon, but until then, feel free to read my travel rants over at Prescription Suitcase or visit a cat and twenty, a wonderful blog I've been reading for the past few months. I'm also fond of I Blame the Patriarchy. Check 'em out.

Some new photos and other assorted news

Just a quick post today -- I've uploaded photos from my two most recent trips, to Jacksonville and Dallas, respectively.  Check 'em out in the albums to the left.  I'm home this week, but next week I'm off to Winston-Salem, NC, so I'll try to get some interesting shots while I'm there.

I've been home alone the past few days... hubby has been in San Fran researching preservation easements and is returning tonight.  Last night, I decided to indulge in one of my favorite pastimes: baseball.  I headed up to Greenville to watch the Greenville Drive play the Asheville Tourists at West End Stadium, and I had an awesome seat: two rows back, right behind home plate.  I haven't been to a baseball game since my 30th birthday last year, but I'm still pretty good at identifying balls and strikes.  It was fun to watch the pitches come in and test myself.

The Tourists won, I think primarily because of some rather weak pitching on the part of the Drive as well as some ridiculous fielding errors.  Still, though, it was an interesting game... I knew I was watching Class A baseball because the manager and coaches were my age and the players were all a solid eight to ten years younger than me.  I feel so old!

On a break

I've had a lot on my plate the past few days and will continue to have a lot for the foreseeable future, so Out and Back is taking a mini-break for a little while.  Regular posting to resume in January sometime.

Turning on the comment moderation

Regular visitors will notice that I have turned on Out and Back's comment moderation feature.  After nearly two trouble-free years, I have noticed an uptick in comment spam as well as some outright harrassment from individuals who apparently dislike what I have to say.  I don't believe in censorship, but there is a world of difference between respectfully disagreeing with someone and launching ad hominem attacks.  (I have been guilty of the latter myself -- it is an easy trap to fall into in the blogosphere, where relative anonymity makes it easier to say and write things that we'd never say to someone's face.)  At any rate, I've made an agreement with myself going forward to keep my (virtual) mouth shut unless I have something constructive to add to a discussion.  By moderating comments, I expect to hold visitors to Out and Back to the same standard.  In all honesty, I hope I won't have to reject any comments (other than comment spam.)

Now that that's out of the way....

I'm #1! I'm #1!

Well, on Google Hong Kong, anyway.  Check this out.

All the more reason to vote for me for Governor of South Carolina.

(OK, that made no sense.  But still, I freakin' ROCK, people!)

All the news that fits

From the Bureau of Useless Updates:

* I sold my freakin' car, finally.  So hubby and I are back to being a one-car family.  (Interesting -- we sold the car with power steering, power windows, and a CD player and kept the one with no power steering, a driver's side window that doesn't shut properly unless you fiddle with it, and a crappy cassette player.  I don't care, though... I would sooner die than give up my little red gumdrop.  I plan to drive it until it won't go anymore.)

* I caught most of the Ang Lee-directed version of Sense and Sensibility on TV this weekend while I was doing laundry.  I had forgotten that Hugh Laurie (aka Dr. Gregory House) was in it -- he plays the equally snarky (in a 19th century sort of way) Mr. Palmer.  Later, when discussing the story with my mother, she confided that she had invented a sequel in her mind in which Eleanor Dashwood's and Mr. Palmer's respective spouses die and the two of them end up together.

* I'm still unemployed, but my career as a stylist seems to be taking off.  One of my ebay bidders recently emailed me to ask if I was going to be selling any more clothes.  I felt like inviting her over to go through my closet.  (The only problem is that she lives overseas, so that isn't really practical.)

* Colleen at Loose Leaf Notes posted today about a pink raft.  Later, while getting ready to go to an appointment, I found myself donning my favorite shoes, which happen to be.... pink.  Coincidence?

* It has been an active week for dreams.  My husband told me about a dream he had in which he drove my car (yes, the aforementioned red gumdrop) to Mexico to steal beer.  Once he got the beer and returned to the car, he discovered it had been stripped -- the wheels were off and other parts were missing, etc.  He told me that in the dream he thought to himself, "Jeanne's not going to be happy about this."  I had a dream the other night that I was back in college, and as I walked through the doorway to the student union, a little kid ran up and sprayed me in the face with red spray paint.

* These interesting dreams have made me miss my therapist.  She was good at interpretation.

* Halloween is just about a week away, which makes me excited.  I don't know if we will get any trick-or-treaters at our apartment complex, and I haven't bought any candy yet.  I always buy candy that I don't like so that I won't eat it.  I celebrate by watching John Carpenter's Halloween movies (well, I watch I, II, and H20 because the others aren't scary, just dumb.)  That reminds me, I had a dream about a haunted house last night.

Gone for a ride

WildwoodnjOut and Back is temporarily closed.

My computer is about to be packed up and loaded on to a moving truck tomorrow morning, so this is my farewell post until early September.

(I could blog from work but I don't like to blur the line between my personal and professional life on the blog, so I might or I might not.)

See y'all in September. (I'm practicing my southern-speak.)
